The Department of Fiber Science and Apparel Design celebrates our centennial by honoring the legacy of Professor Beulah Blackmore, the first full-time clothing and textiles faculty member at Cornell. Blackmore began collecting examples of historical, contemporary and ethnographic dress when she became an assistant professor in 1916. Her collection was the starting point of the Cornell Costume and Textile Collection, which has since grown to over 10,000 garments, flat textiles and accessories.
