Urban Bush Women: Walking with 'Trane

Performance + Music Arts
October 25; 7:30pm
Kiplinger Theatre, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts
Presented by Performing and Media Arts

Urban Bush Women, founded in 1984 by choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, will present Walking With 'Trane at Cornell's Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts this fall. The internationally recognized company seeks to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance.

Choreographed by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar in collaboration with Samantha Speis and dramaturg Talvin Wilks, Walking With 'Trane is inspired by the musical life and spiritual journey of John Coltrane, a composer at the forefront of jazz innovation in a racially-charged America of the 50s and 60s. The work includes dramatic projections and live music played by Grammy award-winning jazz pianist George Caldwell.
