The South Asia Program presents Swaranjali, a Hundistani Classical Music/Jazz crossover performance, featuring saxophonist George Brooks, sarod player Alam Khan, and tabla player Salar Nadar. Brooks has collaborated with many of India’s beloved artists such as Hariprasad Chaurasia and late Sultan Khan and has recorded with artists such as Terry Riley and John McLaughlin. Khan is the son on legendary Sarod Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. He has performed in highly reputed venues such as the Chicago World Music Festival and Carnegie Group in NYC and has performed with India’s greatest Tabla masters such as Swapan Chaudhari, Zakir Hussain, and Anindo Chatterjee. Student of tabla vistuoso Ustad Zakir Hussain, Salar Nader has worked with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Pakistani master vocalist GhulamAli Khan, and Fareed Haque.
