The Melodramatics Theatre Company presents bare, a musical about a group of high school students at Catholic boarding school who are all struggling with, and coming to terms with, their identities and their sexualities. The story centers on Peter and Jason, two gay boys who don’t know how to confront their homosexuality in an unwelcoming community. Their struggle, and the struggle of their classmates, is cleverly confronted in a production of Romeo and Juliet, and through an awesome pop-rock score in the vain of Rent and Spring Awakening. bare raises issues that are entirely too prevalent today; it discusses questions of acceptance, identity, and suicide that that MTC hopes will spark a discussion in the Ithaca community.
The final product is a collaboration of a cast and crew involving students from both Cornell and Ithaca College, as well as the Ithaca community.
