The Council for the Arts launched in 2006, an initiative to link Cornell with off-campus sectors that include furniture design, industrial design, product design, media arts, performance arts, visual and virtual art, and written and spoken word.  The first  year of this initiative of off-site, collaborative work was realized in CCA XDesigngroup 2006.  Ten undergraduate and graduate students form working teams produced a limited number of design solutions for a given design problem.  The cullmination of work was presented at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan in 2006.

Cornell was represented by a conceptual installation by 10 undergraduate students in architecture, and was led by Project Leaders Roberto Bertoia, professor in Art, and Andrea Simitch, professor in Architecture.  One of the pieces, Robin, was featured in a May 25, 2006 "New York Times" article on the best nine pieces from the ICFF (see link).
