They that sow in tears: Doubt, Faith, and Music in Thirty Years

Performance + Music

April 12, 2015
8pm, Anabel Taylor Chapel
Presented by the Cornell Ensemble and Guest Soprana Claire Raphaelson

They that sow in tears is a music- and text-based exploration of faith in the face of doubt during the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648). An intimate and immersive event, it combines the music of Heinrich Schütz (1585-1682) and his contemporaries with spoken prose and poetry and improvised organ meditations. Guest soprano Claire Raphaelson joins an ensemble of Cornell undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty featuring vocalists, viols, organ, harpsichord, and theorbo.
