Performance & Music
April 18, 2015
Presented by Cornell Taiko (Yamatai)
Cornell’s one and only Taiko drumming (Japanese drumming) group, Yamatai, will perform at PULSE 2015, featuring an impressive repertoire of 10 - 15 songs and multiple taiko (Japanese drumming) styles. Yamatai, a student group dedicated to spreading the art and joy of taiko, will collaborate with two guest artists: Bonten, a professional taiko group from Japan, and BASE Productions, a co-ed dance group at Cornell. Through rigorous study and training, Yamatai seeks to explore musical possibilities of taiko drumming in contemporary adaptations while respecting the origins of the traditional art.
