Performance + Music
November 15 - 16, 2014, 2 PM
Presented by the Department of Music
One of the most adventurous and diverse musicians active today is Derek Bermel, an accomplished composer, virtuoso clarinetist, and passionate educator who has put the dialogue between musical cultures, and the dialogue between artistic disciplines, the center of his creative life. Mr. Bermel is a rare type of musician who has fluency, both as a performer and a composer, with canonical classical music, diverse styles of contemporary music as well as musical cultures and traditions that exist beyond the concert hall.
Derek Bermel will visit the Cornell Department of Music for an exciting series of rehearsals and workshops featuring new works written by Cornell graduate composers. Mr. Bermel’s residency culminates in a free public concert held in the Johnson Museum of Art, which will include the premiere performances of new works by Cornell composers Michael Small, Loren Loiacono, and Charles Peck.
