"Semblance" is a student collection that will be presented at the annual Cornell Fashion Collective spring fashion show. Presented by Fiber Science and Apparel Design student Matilda Ceesay, the collection imagines a present-day Africa, untouched by colonialism, where tropes of African dress such as weaving, twisting, and tucking are updated and refined. The pieces juxtapose neoteric technologies such as laser cutting and digital printing with perennial fabrics like denim to recreate cruxes of pre-colonial African dress.
