Writer's Bloc, a student organization at Cornell University, provides a literary platform for the self-expression of incarcerated students of the Cornell Prison Education Program at Auburn and Cayuga Correctional Facilities. The bi-annual journal includes works of poetry and prose that underscore the experience of incarceration by documenting feelings of loss, triumph, sorrow and growth.
This year, Writer's Bloc will host Avi Steinberg, author of Running the Books, to share his experience of working as a librarian in a maximum security facility and the importance of literature in correctional facilities. His visit will be accompanied by the Prisoner Art Express Exhibit at the Big Red Barn, Cornell University.
