Jungle Geodesics

HEB Gallery, Martha Van Renselaer Hall
An exhibition of Cornell's New 'Community Building through Community Buildings' initiative, organized by Jack Elliott, Associate Professor in the Department of Design + Environmental Analysis.  This project is a collaboration between Cornell students and the Punta Canta Ecological Foundation and other host Dominican Republic organizations and stakeholders.  The students participated in a design / build project in the settlement of Veron, to design and build a new assembly space for an AIDS clinic. The project utilized new technologies with vernacular materials that were developed and tested by student researcher under the direction of Professor Elliott.
A geodesic bamboo structural system was developed for ease of assembly / disassembly, for its carbon sequestration, and for its seismic and hurricane resistance.
The exhibiton will feature drawings, models, photographs, structural test specimens, and full-scale prototypes of building components.
