Curated by The History of Art Majors' Society, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art
The History of Art Majors' Society at Cornell aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the visual arts in the Cornell community through a variety of activities organized by the group. This year the group has organized an exhibition with the theme of the icon, focusing on how icons, or the subject of our admiration and obsession, become objects through commoditization in contemporary American society and our daily lives, posing the questions "what is an icon today?" and "what are the effects of icons in society and how do we consume icons?"
The exhibition features works in diverse media by modern and contemporary artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Mary Ellen Mark.
