NEW INSTRUMENTS OF THE FUTURE PAST

KEVIN ERNSTE WITH CAGE

New Instruments of the Future Past

The Orchestra of Futurist Noise Intoners, A Performa Commission, Curated and Conducted by Luciano Chessa — including their 16 newly-reconstructed historical intonarumori instruments — will be at Cornell to deliver a series of concerts, talks, and experimental workshops. Ernste and his improvisation ensemble, CAGE, will create music for the Intoners Orchestra, working with Chessa and his instruments (with student performers) alongside newly-designed/imagined instruments that we will build for the event. These new instruments will use the intonarumori as a starting place, as a model, but extend their basic constructive and sonic principles using contemporary tools and means (motors, sensors, synthetic materials, electronics).
