Hamlet Wakes Up Late

Performance & Music
November 10, 11, 16 & 17; 7:30pm
November 18; 2pm & 7:30pm
Flex Theatre, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts
Presented by Rebekah Maggor

In this biting political satire of Shakespeare's tragedy by renowned Syrian poet and playwright Mamduh Adwan, Hamlet is a narcissistic prince, blissfully unaware of his people's bleak reality. Distracted by drink and theatre rehearsals, Hamlet fails to notice the rise of a brutal plutocratic dictatorship. The production, adapted and directed by PMA assistant professor Rebekah Maggor, brings together text, original music and movement to explore past and present events in Syria, while at the same time pushing the boundaries of our contemporary political conversation in the U.S.

Tickets are $15 (adults) and $8 (students, seniors, and Cornell faculty, staff, students, alumni).

Adapted & directed by PMA assistant professor Rebekah Maggor and supported by a grant from the Cornell Council for the Arts.
