Performance & Music
April 15; 8:00pm
Barnes Hall
Presented by Xak Bjerken

Twenty years ago, a musical collective of Cornell and Ithaca College faculty joined together to create an ensemble dedicated to presenting new musical works. Join Ensemble X as they perform a blockbuster concert of their season in celebration, featuring an arrangement of works from the last 20 years dedicated to the legacy of the late Given Foundation Professor of Music Emeritus Steven Stucky, a founder of Ensemble X.

This program is both retrospective and forward looking, presenting a rarely-heard late work by Jonathan Harvey, a phantasmagoria of bird song, a brand new piano concerto by Stephen Hartke, co-commissioned by Ensemble X, and a recent surrealist work by Cornell alum, Chris Stark, whose music we champion as he gains exposure internationally.  We honor these composers, we celebrate our friendships as performers, and we thank the Ithaca community that has supported us over these many years.

A pre-concert talk with soloists Xak Bjerken and Ryan McCullough, plus composers Hartke and Stark, will begin at 7:30pm.
