Katarina Cheng '15 presents a photography project to address the issue of ageism: the prejudice or discrimination on the basis of a person’s age, most often in the context of the elderly through a tendency to regard older individuals as debilitated, unworthy of attention, or unsuitable for employment on the sole criteria of age.
The purpose of this project is to facilitate intergenerational understanding, compassion, and interactions through providing an opportunity to spark conversation and awareness about the issue of agism, through an exposition of large black and white photos of several elderly members of the local community and a few of their friends who are Cornell students bonding over a shared interest in art, as photos will be taken at the Johnson Museum, the Cornell campus, and local nursing homes.
