The CORNELLPUBLIC VISITING ARTISTS / ON-SITE program brings potential and imagined uses of space, and provides a platform for visiting artists to work on campus, with students and faculty, on projects that are designed to be presented in an otherwise underused or unimagined space on or around the Ithaca campus. Temporary installations / performances / presentations take place at sites on and near the Cornell Ithaca campus and surrounding areas, including but not limited to previously unimagined physical spaces.
The inaugural program for on-site work was an installation which was constructed in September 2006 with artist Patrick Dougherty, a major international artist who produced an urban sculpture installation in Collegetown. His piece transformed a courtyard from a simple pass-thru and bicycle depository, to a space engulfed with large-scale, conical twig sculpture that stopped passersby, and drew them in to interact with the pieces.
The CCA will announce its next On-Site project in Spring 2011.
