Space & Installation
September 16, 2016; 6:30pm
Willard Straight Hall
Sponsored by the Curatorial Collective
The Lebanese artist Teresa Diehl will be talking with curator Sara Garzón about her exhibition titled “Revolution.” This light and sounds installation turns the Willard Straight Hall Art Gallery into a space of contemplation about war in the Middle East by providing a sensorial experience that metaphorically places the viewer in the place of conflict. The talk will address how art, especially immersive installations can subvert conventional modes of representation by raising questions about ideas of seeing, listening, and the very ethics of spectatorship.
Teresa Diehl is a Lebanese-Venezuelan and Miami based artist. She has been experimenting with photography, video and sound sculptures to explore issues of conflict and war. She received her BFA degree in Photography at Florida International University in 1985 and an MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989. Teresa has participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and her works are included in various collections around the world.
