Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art
Presented by the History of Art Majors' Society
The History of Art Majors’ Society provides Cornell undergraduates with the opportunity to collaborate with the Museum in curating and organizing an exhibition. This year, 15 Minutes employs the Johnson’s vast photography collection to explore the construction, preservation, and exhaustion of fame.
15 Minutes traces the history of photograph as a media that functions as substitutes for memories, experiences, and individuals, allowing viewers closeness to something otherwise unfamiliar. The exhibition addresses both the development of celebrity in the public sphere and the preservation of memory in the familial circle and explores the perception, subject, and audience of fame, expanding the photographic construction of celebrity beyond the modern era.
OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, April 15; 8-11pm; free and open to the public
LECTURE: Thursday, April 21; 5:15pm; William Ganis (professor, Indiana State University), author of Andy Warhol's Serial Photography
