Breaking Baksbat: Film Preview with Creator Q&A

Visual + Media Arts
November 18, 2015; 4:30-5:30pm
Abby and Howard Milstein Auditorium
Presented by Robert Lieberman

From the celebrated team that created They Call It Myanmar, comes Breaking Baksbat, a moving psychological portrait of Cambodia.

Spanning the decades after one of the world’s most devastating and puzzling genocides, this film examines the stories not only of those who suffered under the Khmer Rouge’s four-year reign of terror, but also of the next generations. It explores the unexpected effects that continue to ripple from their parents’ traumas and how these young people are attempting to transcend the past and regain their nearly obliterated culture. Baksbat probes the minds of Cambodians in an attempt to see how history influences the present – and the future.

Following the screening of clips from the film, there will be a Q&A with director Robert Lieberman '65 (senior lecturer, Physics), producer Deborah Hoard '78 (president, PhotoSynthesis Productions) and film editor David Kossack.
